Carter's Charity Primary School

Positive Handling

At Carter’s Charity, the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every child is at the heart of everything we do. Our staff are committed to creating a calm, respectful, and supportive learning environment where children can thrive.

I have included in this communication a copy of our Positive Handling Policy which is based on law that became applicable this month.

On rare occasions, situations may arise where a child’s behaviour poses a risk to themselves, to others, or to property. In such circumstances, and only as a last resort, trained members of staff may use positive handling techniques to safely guide or hold a child. There may also be occasions when children need to handled to calm or reassure them. This is always done:

  • With the minimum force necessary
  • For the shortest time possible
  • In line with our school’s Positive Handling Policy and legal guidance

We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is key to supporting children’s emotional and social development. If you have any questions about our approach, please contact the school office.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and nurturing environment for all our pupils.
