MATHEMATICS INTENT
Here at Carter’s Charity Primary School, we are proud of our high-quality Maths provision and aspire to transform our children into Mathematicians.
As a school family, we believe that Maths plays an integral part in preparing our children for lifelong learning. Therefore, we aim to ensure that each and every one of our pupils, regardless of background or ability, will leave Carter’s equipped with the mathematical life skills which will enable them to flourish in the wider world and play a full and active part in society.
Through promoting an enthusiasm and love for Maths, we are able to create opportunities for and enrich the lives of all of our pupils. Underpinned by the White Rose Maths Scheme of Work, our Maths lessons aim to ensure that the three core areas of the National Curriculum are covered in all our lessons: fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
Both our staff and pupils understand the importance of automaticity and fluency within Maths and therefore, links to real life contexts are planned for wherever possible, enabling pupils to make connections across the subject and the wider curriculum. Alongside a language rich environment, we aim to ensure that our lessons cater for children to have the opportunity to develop their confidence, stamina and resilience and that ultimately, they leave their Carter’s journey being able to talk maths, do maths and apply maths to their everyday lives.
