School Meals - November 2020

As you can imagine, we have had to make some alterations to our meal service in light of safe distancing and hygiene regimes. we are only allowing 2 classes into the hall each day to have a hot meal choice. This means that on other days children are able to choose from a wide selection of cold meal deals.

SCHOOL MEALS

Meal Pattern Changes

Please let the office know of any meal pattern changes you wish to make for your child as soon as possible. We do ask for a week’s notice to change. Please e-mail bursar@carters.lancs.sch.uk – this will help our school kitchen in the planning of meals in the current situation.

If we are not given at least a full week’s notice, then you will be charged for the meals as per your original pattern.  I am sorry but we have to do this as the kitchen work off the numbers of meals a week in advance of them being taken and order food accordingly.

If you wish a different meal pattern to begin after the half term break, we will need to know before close of play tomorrow (Friday 23rd October), please email school or send a direct Dojo message.

School Dinners - Update for meals taken in school after the half term holiday from Monday 2nd November

We are aware that the reduction in the number of hot options has impacted choices for lunches. After a successful trial of offering a hot option for those having lunches in classes in a safe and hygienic manner, we are able to now offer a hot option choice daily for those in class after half term.

Currently we are only able to have a maximum of 2 classes at a time in each sitting in the hall due to current restrictions; lunch runs from 11:45am until 1:15pm. To give everyone a hot meal option in the hall would take from 11:45 until 2:30!

Here is our updated menu for the rest of this term up to Christmas:

Free School Meals

Existing entitlements to free school meals for disadvantaged pupils in nursery classes and at key stages 2-4 will continue, based on the existing free school meals eligibility criteria for those groups of pupils.

In England, children at key stages 2-4 in state-funded schools are entitled to receive FSM if their parents or carers are in receipt of specific benefits. Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

If your child is eligible for free school meals, they’ll remain eligible until they finish the phase of schooling (primary or secondary) they’re in on 31 March 2022.

If you think you are eligible for free school meals, and your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, please apply for them as both your family and school benefits from this status. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

Since September 2014 all pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England have been offered a free school meal (FSM).

However, please do apply if eligible for benefits-led free school meals even if your child is in our Reception, Y1 or Y2, as this has added benefits for both you and your family and the school. If you have any questions, please contact us.
